X Image Format Guide (Header and Feed)

X surfaces can present the same image differently depending on where it appears: timeline preview, expanded media view, profile page, or header. Reliable exports start with format-specific framing decisions.

Common target dimensions

• Header banner: 1500 x 500 (3:1)
• Feed image (wide): 1200 x 675 (16:9 style)
• Feed image (square): 1080 x 1080 (1:1)

Composition strategy

For headers, avoid placing key copy near the bottom-left because the profile avatar and UI overlays occupy that area. For feed images, prioritize central framing and high-contrast subjects.

Export settings

• use JPG for photos and general campaign visuals
• use PNG when text edges or UI-style graphics must stay crisp
• pre-check small-size readability before posting

Design for first impression speed: the user often sees your image at small timeline scale for less than a second before deciding to expand.
